As a follow up to our recent blog “Making of the 2015 Inventive Label Christmas Card”, we are pleased to report that our card won “Best of Category: Cards” in the annual Southern California Printing Industries of America (PIASC) “Print Excellence Awards Contest”.
Of particularly importance to us was the fact that the “Christmas Project” was in reality an educational exercise focused on training our new employees. All aspects of the card’s creation involved the direct participation of recently hired staff. The complexity of the card’s design encompassed virtually all aspects of producing multi-layered labels and high end process printing. The Christmas card contains all of our major types of complex labels from 2 ply resealable Expanded Content Labels (ECL’s) as snowballs, to Clean Peel labels as gift packages, and even includes in-line folded labels as Santa’s sleigh and reindeers.
All phases of pre-production were included in this training exercise including order entry, creative graphic design, production graphics, and tooling selection. In addition the trainees followed the project into the press room and were involved with the actual production of each component of the card. In this exercise, “learning to win” really was a reality.
